Intelligent Freight Transport Systems

The Intelligent Freight Transport Systems PRG tackles the issues of transport congestion and the growing freight task through the use of ‘smart’ technologies. The PRG focuses on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Victorian road network through the application of new and existing intelligent systems.

The PRG will look to tackle road congestion, transport efficiency and network effectiveness through the investigation and application of existing and new intelligent hardware and software applications that are or could be deployed to maintain Victoria's position as the State of Supply Chain Excellence.

The PRG membership is made up of the owners and managers of the road and freeway networks, private business and government agencies as well as experts to provide the Industry-Government Partnership with an ‘expert reference group’ for Intelligent Freight Transport Systems (IFTS).

The IFTS PRG provides advice and direction to the Transport and Logistics Industry Round Table on possible projects and improvements that will benefit not only the stakeholders, but all road users and the community at large.

Mr Peter Bentley, President of Intelligent Transport Systems Australia, has agreed to Chair the group, with initial secretariat support provided by the Transport and Logistics Unit of the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development.
