Information and Communications Technologies are key enablers for supply chains. Use of advanced technologies significantly change the way in which supply chains work.

The Business Systems PRG, known as Biz Sys, assesses the range of current and emerging technologies applicable to supply chain performance, and determine how they can be best employed in the pursuit of our overall supply chain excellence objective.

Other key issues addressed include:

  • Interoperability and related web based systems.
  • Improving access for SMEs and regional operators.
  • Upgrading awareness of the relevant technologies across the TDL Industry.
  • In consultation with the Education and Training PRG, assess training and education needs/delivery.
  • Information visibility across enterprises in supply chains.
  • Increasing value for customers from technologies utilisation

The myth that major software investment is the key to effective supply chain implementation needs to be debunked. The diversity of the Biz Sys PRG membership ensures that the full range of relevant enablers will be considered and developed.

The PRG includes experience and expertise ranging from communications, software, hardware, data capture and use, intelligent transport, e-business, web based systems, supply chain tools, warehousing systems and methods, distribution, enterprise resource planning, TDL handling equipment, demand and order management.

Of course, supply chain concepts will not be appropriate for every enterprise. It is also true that uniform technologies, or indeed any technology, may not be appropriate for some enterprises.

Reinvented relationships (real collaborative partnerships) and effective use of relevant technologies are the key enablers of supply chains. The importance of these two issues cannot be over estimated. The Biz Sys PRG plays a major role in the pursuit of the supply chain excellence objective.
