Intelligent Transport Systems AustraliaIntelligent Transport Systems Australia (ITS Australia) is Australia's leading organisation supporting the development of a safe, efficient transport system, which is responsive to the environment through the use of advanced technologies. Established in 1992, ITS Australia is an Incorporated Not for Profit organisation, which represents a broad spectrum of ‘Technology in Transport’ members including industry, government, consumer organisations, and academia - fostering the development and deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems in Australia. Recognising the importance of transport to the quality of life of every Australian, and that information can improve the effectiveness of transport, Intelligent Transport Systems will be applied in an integrated program to the transport task - delivering a significant net contribution to Australia's economic, environmental, and social needs and objectives over the next decade. Promoting use of advanced technologies to improve Australia's passenger and freight transport systems, the aim of ITS Australia is to provide a forum to guide the development and integration of these technologies, systems and standards. ITS Australia currently represents over 80 organisations and companies involved in ITS, including infrastructure providers, hardware suppliers, content aggregators and suppliers, service providers, vehicle manufacturers and transport companies. ITS Australia also has strong international links with similar organisations including ITS America, ERTICO, ITS Europe, ITS Japan and ITS Asia-Pacific. ITS Australia hosted the hugely successful 8th World Congress on ITS in Sydney during October 2001, where over 3800 ITS professionals gathered to view the latest ITS exhibitors in three halls of Darling Harbour. Result – an increase in awareness of the benefits of ITS and importantly an increase in sales and export for the Australian ITS industry. Our Charter:
